Chrome Extension Guide | Receive SMS Verification Codes in Your Browser Toolbar

How to install and use the free SMS Verification Chrome extension — request a virtual number, receive OTP codes in the background, copy them in one click, and understand every permission it asks for.

The SMS Verification Chrome extension puts temporary phone numbers in your browser toolbar. Request a virtual number, receive the OTP code and copy it without ever leaving the page you are signing up on.

Install it from the Chrome Web Store →

It is free, uses the same account and credits as the website, and adds no surcharge.

Requirements

  • Chrome, or any Chromium-based browser with Manifest V3 support (Edge, Brave, Arc). Safari and Firefox are not supported.
  • An account on smsverification.app with credits. Credits bought on the website work in the extension and vice versa.

Install

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store listing.
  2. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm.
  3. Pin the extension so the icon stays visible: click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to SMS Verification.

If Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing shows a "not trusted" notice, it refers to how recently the extension was published, not to a scan of its code. Users on Chrome's default Standard protection do not see it.

Click the toolbar icon:

  • Already signed in on the website in the same browser? The extension picks up that session automatically and goes straight to the number picker.
  • Not signed in? Enter your email and password in the popup, or use the Google option, which opens the website to finish the sign-in.

Either way it is one account and one balance, shared with the web dashboard.

Get a number and receive the code

  1. Pick a service. Search for Telegram, WhatsApp, Amazon, Discord or any of the 700+ supported services.
  2. Pick a country. Availability and price per verification are shown per country. Countries near the top of the list usually have the highest success rate for that service.
  3. Confirm. The service, country, cost in credits and your current balance are shown before anything is charged.
  4. Copy the number. It appears under the Active tab with a 15-minute countdown. Paste it into the signup form and request the code.
  5. Wait anywhere. You can close the popup. When the code arrives you get a desktop notification with a Copy code button, and the toolbar icon shows a badge with the number of codes waiting.

Background code delivery

A background service worker keeps polling your active orders on a timer. Fresh orders — the first few minutes, when most codes land — are checked most frequently, and the interval widens afterwards to save resources. While the popup is open it takes over polling and the background worker steps aside, so no duplicate requests are made.

In practice: request the number, close the popup, keep working, and Chrome tells you when the code shows up.

Credits, refunds and cancellation

  • Prices in the extension are identical to the website. No extension surcharge, no subscription.
  • No code within 15 minutes means an automatic refund. The order expires and the credits return to your balance without any action from you.
  • You can cancel an order yourself for an immediate refund, starting three minutes after the number is issued. That delay exists because upstream carriers need a moment to route the first message, and cancelling earlier would throw away a code already in flight.
  • Running low? The confirmation screen compares your balance with the cost and links to the pricing page to top up. See Pricing and Credits for how credits are calculated.

Settings

Open the settings view from the popup to change:

  • Language — English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語 and Español, independent of your browser language.
  • Theme — light, dark or follow the system, matched to the website's palette.
  • Notifications — the desktop alert shown when a verification code arrives.

Permissions

PermissionWhy it is needed
alarmsThe timer that drives background polling for new codes
storageYour language, theme and the local list of active orders
notificationsThe desktop alert when a verification code arrives
offscreenWriting to the clipboard, which a service worker cannot do on its own

Its only host permission is https://smsverification.app/*. The extension talks to our API and nothing else: there are no content scripts, so it cannot read the pages you browse, your open tabs or your browsing history.

Troubleshooting

The popup is blank or stuck loading. Close and reopen it. If it persists, check that you are online and that no network policy blocks smsverification.app.

I am signed in on the website but the extension asks me to sign in. The session is per-browser-profile. Make sure the website and the extension are in the same Chrome profile, and that cookies for smsverification.app are not blocked.

No notification when the code arrives. Check that notifications are allowed for Chrome at the operating-system level (Focus/Do Not Disturb mode suppresses them), then re-enable notifications in the extension settings.

The code never arrives. This is not extension-specific — see OTP Troubleshooting for causes and fixes. Your credits are refunded automatically when the order expires.

Chrome says the extension is not trusted. See Install above: it is a publishing-history notice, not a code scan.

FAQ

Is the SMS Verification Chrome extension free?

The extension is free to install and use. Numbers are paid for with credits from your smsverification.app account, at exactly the same prices as the website. There is no subscription and no extension surcharge.

Do I need a separate account for the Chrome extension?

No. The extension uses the same account and the same credit balance as the website. If you are already signed in at smsverification.app in the same browser, the extension picks up that session automatically.

Does the extension keep checking for codes when the popup is closed?

Yes. A background service worker keeps polling your active orders, so you can close the popup and keep browsing. When a code arrives you get a desktop notification with a copy button, plus a counter badge on the toolbar icon.

Which browsers does the extension support?

Chrome and any Chromium-based browser with Manifest V3 support, including Edge, Brave and Arc. It is not available for Safari or Firefox.

What happens if no verification code arrives in the extension?

The order expires after 15 minutes and your credits are refunded automatically. You can also cancel an order yourself for an immediate refund, three minutes after the number is issued.
